Spore Creature Creator Demo
Creature Creator
Q: The creations I've made aren't appearing online. How can I make these visible on the website?
A: Once you've logged in and created a creature, you will need to
publish your creations to show them to others. Select the creature you
want to share in The Sporepedia and click on the 'share' button at the
bottom of the Sporepedia to publish your creature.
Q: I see the following message when trying to login. How can I login successfully?
The email address and password don't match anything in our
system. Please try again; if you continue to have problems, please
contact Customer Support.
A: If you try to login and you've gotten this message, you may
already have an EA account. If this is the case, you need to login with
the email address and password that you used to create your EA Account.
All you need to do is create a Spore screen name.
If you've forgotten your EA Account password, visit our authorization help page
and select "Recover forgotten password", then enter your email address.
Your lost password will be sent to your email address, and you can use
it to successfully login.
Q: How will I be able to control content sharing in my Spore game?
A: First of all, the Spore Creature Creator does not automatically
share content. To open another player's creature in your Spore Creature
Creator you can download it from www.spore.com or drag the png file to
your desktop and then onto the dias of your Spore Creature Creator once
you have opened the application.
When Spore the full game ships, there are a number of features we've
developed that will help you control what content ends up in your game
or Sporepedia.
1. Sharing is optional. You can play offline and use only content that you or Maxis created.
2. You can enable the Buddies Only option in the Spore Online
Settings options. With this setting on, only content from Spore players
that you designate as Buddies in your Sporepedia will show up in your
game.
3. You can Create and Subscribe to Sporecasts, which are collections
of Spore content. Your game will be biased to select content from the
Sporecasts that you're subscribed to.
4. If you do elect to have open sharing on, you can immediately Ban
any content that appears in your game or Sporepedia with a simple
click. This will delete the copy of that content from your computer as
well as send a message to our servers. We review and address banned
content regularly.
Q: Will the fan-created creatures be imported into the full retail Spore game at launch?
A: Yes. The creatures you make with the Spore Creature Creator can be imported into the full retail version of Spore.
Q: When can I get the Creature Creator?
A: We know our fans are very excited to get started making Spore
creatures. We are happy to confirm we will be releasing Spore Creature
Creator to the world this Summer. The free trial will be available June
17th.
Q: Will I have to pay for the Creature Creator, or buy SimCity to get it?
A: There will be a broadly-available FREE trial downloadable version
of the Creature Creator, featuring about 25% of the total creature
parts from the Spore game. We will also offer a complete version of the
Creature Creator, containing all the creature parts.
Q: What can I do with the Creature Creator?
A: It works exactly like the Creature Creator in Spore.
Players
can create an unlimited number of creatures, play with them in a test
area, capture movies and screens of their creatures and send emails of
their creatures to their friends.
They can use these creatures in the final game when it ships this September.
Clarifications
Gamasutra article and the Spore Store
On March 31st, 2008 some incorrect details were published about Spore
on Gamasutra.com
(http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=18029). We've
asked them to make a correction but also wanted to clarify here.
Sharing or "downloading" player created content is a core feature of
Spore, not at all something that is part of the Spore Store or even
under consideration for additional charge. The entire game is based on
players making creatures, buildings, and vehicles which can be accessed
from what we call our Sporepedia – a web based collection of all player
created assets.
The Spore Store simply gives players the ability to purchase
out-of-game merchandise such as t-shirts and posters or any additional
game products we might make down the road such as expansion packs. For
example, we are working with a company to provide the option for 3D
versions of a player's creature to be made and the Spore Store is where
that purchase would originate. We have also mentioned that we will be
providing the Creature Creator tool as a stand alone product in the
month or two before the game launches so that players can begin to
design their creatures, but we do not have plans to sell individual
parts via micro-transactions.
The Basics
Q: How much do the physical capabilities of your creature
influence their effectiveness in combat during the tribal, and
civilization stages?
A: In tribe stage physical abilities still directly influence your
creature's success. For example, a high stealth ability can mean the
difference between success or failure in an ambush. Meanwhile, the use
of tools begins to play a larger role in the success of the species.
In civilization stage, your creature will develop more sophisticated
technology. Here, the emphasis is more on strategic use of modern
advancements rather than physical abilities.
The
evolutionary path you choose has ramifications on the future of your
species. Your actions will earn your species a trait which in turn
gives it certain special abilities that will aide it in the next stage
of its advancement and beyond.
Q: In the space stage will you just control your own spaceship, or will you be able to command fleets of ships?
A: When you form an alliance with and alien empire in space, a
spaceship from that species will join your own. By forming multiple
alliances, you can build a small fleet which you lead by controlling
your own spaceship, at the helm of the group.
Q: What does "massively single" player mean?
A: Spore is the best of both worlds. It has some of the best
features of online multiplayer games. You can share all your creations
with people round the world, and check out everything they are making.
AI-controlled copies of their creatures and vehicles will populate your
game, keeping it fun and fresh. At the same time, you are not playing
directly with other people so no-one can come into your personal world
and destroy it.
Q: Won't my planet become over-crowded with everyone's creatures being downloaded into my world?
A: Your game will only download as many creatures, buildings, and
vehicles as it needs to build a great experience for you. If you have
created a list of buddies, their creations will be prioritized when the
game needs to download new things. This system keeps your game fresh,
and makes sure there are always lots of cool new things to encounter as
you explore the universe of Spore.
Q: Can I make creatures that live underwater or in trees?
A: In Spore's Cell stage your tiny creature will grow in its
underwater world. The remainder of the game takes place on land, where
you can grow your humble little beast into a world dominating species.
Versions, Dates, Costs, Ratings
Q: Will the Mac and PC versions share the same "Sporepedia" of creatures?
A: Yes. You'll be able to share and explore the great creations that your friends with both Macs and PCs make.
Q: Why aren't there more details about the Wii version?
A: Will mentioned in an article that we are working on a Wii
version, but that version is in the early proto-typing phase. It will
not be released at the same time as the PC and Mac versions.
Tech Questions
Q: Am I going to need a top-of-the line new computer to be able to play Spore?
A: While Spore offers a unique gameplay experience, our team is
working hard to make sure Spore will be accessible to as broad an
audience as possible.
Spore Creatures
Q: How were you able to fit all of Spore into the DS version
A: Spore Creatures on the Nintendo DS is a fully custom sku
developed specifically for the DS platform, featuring a unique
storyline and art style optimized for that platform. It focuses on
guiding and evolving your creature in interactions with others,
collecting parts, and evolving your creature in the Creature Editor.
Q: Can I trade creatures between the DS and PC versions?
A: No. The DS and PC games are tailored quite differently, for the best game experience on each platform.
